Natural Fertility Support in Fort Collins: Where to Start Before (or Instead of) IVF or IUI
/If you're trying to conceive and feel stuck, you're not alone. Many of the patients who walk into Balanced Thistle have already seen an OB or midwife, tried ovulation medication, or sat through an IVF consultation and left with sticker shock. What they want is simple: to understand why it isn't happening yet.
Natural fertility support starts there. Here's where to begin, whether you want to try before IVF, alongside it, or you're still deciding.
Step 1: Get the full picture, not just a timeline
In most conventional care, you need to try for a full year before you qualify for fertility testing. We don't wait. Your first visit covers your complete gynecological and health history- because thyroid function, autoimmune conditions, metabolic health, stress, and your partner all play a role in conception.
When it's helpful, we run hormone labs to dig into what's going on. We can't prescribe medication, but we can give you the research to bring to your doctor so you can ask for what you need and provide you with personalized support in terms of herbs and supplements based on your lab results.
Step 2: Support your cycle, phase by phase
Your cycle has four phases, each driven by different hormones. That's why fertility treatment plans usually start with weekly acupuncture. Each visit supports what your body is doing in that phase and how your hormones SHOULD be working.
Acupuncture helps in two main ways. It increases blood flow to the pelvic organs, which nourishes the tissue. Plus it calms the nervous system, moving your body out of "fight or flight" and into "rest and digest," where it feels safe enough to do its work.
Step 3: Bring your partner in
Fertility is a two-person project. Sperm regenerates in about 72 days, so a partner's health can start shifting even sooner than egg quality does. We support men's fertility, too.
Step 4: Give it time
Eggs take about 100 days to mature before ovulation. Most patients start seeing shifts after three to four cycles of consistent care. Some conceive within a few months; others take longer.
We'll be honest with you about what we're seeing every step of the way.
Natural support or IVF? You don't have to choose today
Natural fertility support isn't anti-IVF. For some patients, it's the first step before IVF. For others, it's supportive alongside IVF or IUI. If you're heading toward a transfer, we recommend at least 10 weekly visits beforehand, plus treatments on transfer day. If you’re heading towards retrieval, we hope to see you with enough time to prepare ovarian and egg health for optional results. The right path is a decision you make with your doctor, and we'll support whichever one you choose.
