Yoni Steaming, also known as V-Steaming or vaginal steaming, is an ancient technique used around the world to address gynecological issues and vaginal and uterine health. It’s currently one of the top requested alternative health services in the U.S. and rapidly growing in popularity. Balanced Thistle was the first clinic to bring Yoni Steaming to Northern Colorado!

FAQ about Yoni Steaming

Why work with a certified steam practitioner? Steaming is not as simple as it sounds. A certified practitioner will be able to properly screen you for any contraindications and make an accurate Chinese medicine diagnosis. From there, a certified practitioner will select the best herbs for your diagnosis, the ideal steam schedule (before, after, or before and after your period) and know the proper amount of time and heat intensity for your treatment. This varies by case.

Are there any side effects from Yoni steaming? Yes. This is more than a silly trend- it’s medicine! Depending on your diagnosis, certain changes are desired and expected. For example, if we are trying to detox your uterus, we might see extra discharge during your period following your steam sessions. The risks of unwanted side-effects, such as break-through bleeding, decreases by working with a certified steam therapist. We beg of you- please don’t try this at home!

How might Yoni steaming affect my sex life? A Yoni steam protocol can address both vaginal dryness and laxity as well as local flora. It can increase local circulation and nerve conduction improving sexual stimulation and decreasing discomfort. Both you and your partner will likely love a steam regime!

What does it feel like? The experience is nothing shy of lovely. The steam is warm, but not hot, and you are covered up and comfortable the entire time- nothing is exposed! The lovely smell of the herbs will permeate the room and you will have 10-30 minutes of the truest you-time you will ever experience.

Are there any contraindications? ABSOLUTELY. You are not a candidate for steaming if any of the following apply to you:

  1. If you are currently pregnant (exception for labor prep, call the clinic to learn more)

  2. If you have had more than one period per month within the last three months (this case will require acupuncture/internal Chinese Herbs to control bleeding).

  3. Actively on your period.

  4. Burning itch or open sores (steaming during a break-out can aggravate the condition).

  5. Between ovulation and menses if you are trying to get pregnant.

  6. Tubal cauterization or endometrial ablation.

  7. Essure birth control or birth control methods that thicken the uterine lining to prevent pregnancy.
